NAIDOC Week runs from 2-9 July this year, celebrating the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

This year's theme is For Our Elders who have played, and continue to play, an important role and hold a prominent place in our communities and families. They are cultural knowledge holders, trailblazers, nurturers, advocates, teachers, survivors and leaders.

Local Elders have played an important role in ensuring the design for Tamworth’s new mental health unit incorporates the culture and values of the Kamilaroi and Gomeroi people. The design is based on the key themes of Connection to Sky, Cultural Care and Country as Healing.

We thank the local Kamilaroi and Gomeroi people for their time, wisdom and guidance to ensure the project delivers a mental health unit that meets the health needs of the local community now and well into the future.
