What funding has been confirmed for this project?
The NSW Government is investing $180 million in a project that combines Stage 2 of the Manning Hospital Redevelopment and the Forster Public Hospital Project.
What did Manning Hospital Redevelopment Stage 1 deliver?
The $40 million Manning Base Hospital Redevelopment Stage 1 was completed in June 2020 and delivered:
• Enhanced cancer care and renal dialysis services for the communities throughout the Lower Mid-North Coast
• A new patient and staff carpark improving parking facilities
• Improved access for patients and clinical support areas
• New medical imaging floor, including MRI, CT, ultrasound and fluoroscopy
• Refurbishment of the Hospital Main Entry.
What will the Lower Mid North Coast Health Service Project deliver to the region?
The investment in the Lower Mid North Coast Health Service Project will enable delivery of modern new hospital and health facilities that will help meet the future health needs of communities in Taree and the wider Manning Valley region, along with recommencing the planned investment towards public health services in Forster-Tuncurry.
Where is the project up to?
The development of a health facility involves three key phases: Planning, Design and Delivery. Manning Hospital Redevelopment Stage 2 is in the design phase, while planning is underway for public health services in Forster-Tuncurry.
What will happen next?
Health Infrastructure is working with the Hunter New England Local Health District to identify the key clinical priorities as part of refining the project scope for the region, including producing a clear description of how the Manning Hospital redevelopment will look and function. The design will be based on feedback received from staff through project user groups and the community.
Will there be further consultation regarding the planning and design of the new health service?
This is a locally and regionally important redevelopment. Planning and design of the new health service will be a collaborative process involving consultation with clinicians, staff, patient groups, local stakeholders and the community. There will be a range of ways to engage with the project and these will be announced as the project progresses, including opportunity to view and provide feedback on the master plan and concept designs.
Project User Groups (PUGs) and key stakeholder working groups will also be established as the redevelopment progresses, providing further opportunity to get involved.
What opportunities exist for Aboriginal employment and local employment on the project?
Under the NSW Government’s Aboriginal Participation in Construction (APIC) policy, the building contractor will be required to create a minimum level of Aboriginal employment opportunity throughout the project delivery nominated as part of the tender process. The redevelopment of Manning Hospital will deliver a boost to the Myall Lakes region including local jobs and increased activity for local businesses.
When will work commence on site?
The construction timeline will be confirmed once the planning and design process is complete.
