April 2023: Early works start for new mental health unit
Building contractor A W Edwards has been awarded the contract for the project’s early works, which involves adding new parking spaces in four zones around the hospital. This will create more parking spaces for visitors and staff than the number that will be removed to build the new unit.

Updated concept plans for the new mental health unit at Tamworth Hospital have been released, showcasing expanded facilities designed to support the recovery and wellbeing of adults and young people in need of mental health care.
 

July 2022, Additional funding announced for the project

In June, as part of the 2022 Budget the NSW Government announced an additional $14.6 million for the new Banksia Mental Health Unit at Tamworth Hospital. This additional funding will help us further expand the design to support enhanced services for children and adolescents. More
