Happy anniversary to the largest redevelopment outside metro Sydney. October marks two years of main works construction, with concrete poured for eight of the 12 levels of the new acute services building. This includes four basement carparks, seven levels of clinical space and two rooftop helipads. Watch this time lapse of the past two years of work on our project website.
Last month, the team helped relocate staff and patients from ESSU and MACU in H2 to their temporary location in Ward H3. Hoarding has been installed at the H2 entry, blocking access to the stairs and lift on level 2. However, the lift H stairs still provide access to the mortuary, level 1 and level 3. Behind the hoarding, work on the bridge to the new building is underway.
Outside, the canopy from the main entry carpark lift to the pedestrian crossing has been demolished. The new lift and covered walkway connecting to the main entry will both be completed early 2025.
Hoarding has also been installed to facilitate the connection between the existing hospital to the new building. We acknowledge the noise from this work and appreciate your patience as it continues. Meetings have been temporarily relocated to L block, near the Hunter Innovation Living Lab (old library). *The image above captures one of the final meetings in the Executive Suite boardroom.
JHHIP’s construction partner, Multiplex is laying the groundwork for a career in construction via its Jump Start Juniors program.
In partnership with LEGO Australia Schools, this initiative sparks early interest in construction and aims to reshape girls’ views of the industry, where only 13% of the workforce is female.
Recently, Multiplex staff working on the JHHIP project visited Year 6 students at St Joseph’s Primary School in Merewether, Newcastle, introducing them to construction terms and guiding them in building and testing their own LEGO structures.
The program will reach over 1,500 NSW students near active Multiplex projects, with plans to expand nationally in 2025. Learn more about Jump Start Juniors on Multiplex’s website.
