CALL TO LOCAL ARTISTS TO FEATURE AT GUNNEDAH HOSPITAL REDEVELOPMENT

Local artists with strong connections to Gunnedah are invited to take part in the arts program for the $53 million Gunnedah Hospital Redevelopment, with Expressions of Interest now open.

The artworks will feature in the new acute services building and will provide inspiration and comfort to patients, visitors and staff.

Health Infrastructure Creative Producer Kattie Bugeja said the program offers a unique opportunity for artists to contribute to the art in the new hospital redevelopment.

“We are seeking interest from artists to develop artwork that will be featured in public and clinical areas of the redeveloped Gunnedah Hospital, which will give the region’s health facility a unique and distinct identify,” Ms Bugeja said.

“We know that integrating art and storytelling into health facilities is important as they promote healing and provide a more positive experience for patients, staff and visitors.”

There are two opportunities to contribute to the project:
  • Project 1: emergency department entry canopy. This opportunity is identified for an Aboriginal artist.
  • Project 2: wall graphics throughout clinical locations within the emergency department and maternity units.

Artists must have strong community links to the Gunnedah community, work in a style that is complementary to health care environments, share examples of previous work and be available to deliver the artworks in 2025.

Health Infrastructure has partnered with regional arts development organisation Arts North West to support the Expressions of Interest process.

Expressions of Interest will be open until midnight on Sunday, 20 October 2024 and can be submitted here: Gunnedah Hospital Redevelopment, Arts in Health — Arts North West (artsnw.com.au)

Artists are encouraged to reach out to Executive Director, Lauren Mackley via email rado@artsnw.com.au or call 0493 316 463 if they require support developing their submission. Emerging artists are warmly encouraged to apply.

Health Infrastructure’s Arts in Health program guides the inclusion of arts in the NSW healthcare system to improve consumer, staff and carer experiences. The commissioning of artworks is being carried out in collaboration with NSW Health staff and the community.
